WSRL About Page - 2009, Revised Dec. 2009 - Page 1 In early 2000 I felt the the U.S. was, in deed, heading into troubled waters. It wasn't
long that the first rumblings of financial disaster started. I remember the pleading of Arthur Levitt for help from congress with what he felt was the out-of-control manipulation of markets by powerful corporations who he felt (ie. Enron) was cooking the books relative to various aspects of their operations. Then the 911 debacle happened which brought in to focus the problem with energy and the increasing grave danger to the U.S. posed by importing vast quantities of petroleum from unfriendly countries. In this same time frame was the increasing awareness of something called "Global Warming". It became apparent that the U.S. was being hit with major problems from several different directions. The GAO was warning of major future financial problems but no one seemed interested or concerned .
The Internet -
Finding it easy to assemble PC's from parts, I was an early adopter of Internet technology. As was the case with many others in this same time frame, the Internet opened a door to the world and provided unmatched resources for documenting and explaining what was happening in the world. The only problem was the incredibly slow pace of telephone companies in bringing this fantastic new technology to rural areas. It is such even today in this area.
Writing Web Page Code -
After much frustration in trying to generate acceptable web page code, I discovered the W3 Schools website and the rest is history as they say. This site currently contains no scripts or Java® code because these can be used by criminals to do very bad things to your computer not to mention steal critical data. This benefit, of course, does not extend to the hundreds of sites linked-to by this site. An effective fix for this problem is contained within these pages. If you are using the Firefox® browser with the "Server Spy" plug-in, you will notice that this site is hosted on a Linux Apache server. Everything about this site is constructed using the very fine and no cost Linux software platform.
Site Focus -
The Internet can be a very wild and messy place. This site attempts to bring together and concentrate on the many high quality resources currently available from the Internet. These resources are made available to others through an extensive links section located on the right side of each page. The top menu bar is structured as a quick drill-down and navigation tool allowing access to desired data with a minimum of mouse clicks.
Legal Stuff -
This is a not-for-profit site. In accordance with Title 17 U.S.C. Section 107 (Fair Use), material on this site is distributed totally without profit or cost to those accessing the material.
