WSRL.ORG / Rural Colorado, U.S. Healthcare Issues - December 2008 - Page 1 For now, this section will be divided into two avenues of focus. On this page
the focus will be on general healthcare issues with the hope that past problems will be recognized and handled in an effective manner. The 2nd avenue of focus will be on cancer and the problems I perceive will be on-going due to the nature of physicians and medical organizations in general and how they function in real life. I take my statements and suggestions relative to topic of cancer from actual and personal real life experiences.
News, April 6, 2010 - U.S. Health Reform Bill
Ready or not, here comes healthcare reform. $940 Billion over 10 years. Hated by many, loved by others, this bill marks a major turning point for virtually everyone in the U.S. An initial breakdown of the effects can be found at the following link . An excellent source of information on the bill can be found at this site.
The Great Health Care Bill Debate - August 2009
Continuing from the above paragraph, things are heating up. As you might imagine $1.4 million per day buys a lot of mis-information. From my view point, it boils down to an awful lot of people with an awful lot of money not wanting anything to change. The nightly spectacle of people in town hall meeting shouting and waving their arms reminds me of past fanatical protest in Iraq. I can't help but wonder if these people have ever had an original thought in their life. Anyway, I invite you to review the links to the right. The Wendell Potter blog is especially revealing, in my view, as to what is really going on.
Doctor Shortage -
Perhaps one of the most troubling trends, direct from a recent survey, is that fully 49% of physicians today would or are considering leaving the profession due to the red tape and high paper work burdens imposed on their practices. Insurance companies love to play games with physicians and patient's lives. It's unknown how many doctors will or would actually carry through with this threat but it is obvious that most doctors would like to see a major reduction or elimination of the required paper work. In my area I know that doctors give as high as a 60% discount on the cost of services for patients that simply pay their bills in cash - no insurance company involved.
The Bad Side Of Medicine -
If you think that all doctors tell the truth or that all medically related suppliers tell the truth, I have a different message for you. There is a great site produced by a Dr. Stephen Barrett. His site carries the title of " Quackwatch ". As an indication of the scope of the problem, Dr. Barrett's main site links to 21 additional sites dealing with medical fraud and deception. Once again, the Internet and the knowledge to use it wisely and effectively is you best defense against being stung by a medical villain.
The Escalating Healthcare Cost Crisis -
It has been said many times of late that the US Healthcare system is the most expensive on the planet while being rated by the World Health Organization as 37th on the planet. Recent polls show that 21 percent of poll respondents said that their healthcare costs are set to increase between 11 to 15 percent in 2009. Twelve percent of respondents reported a 12-percent increase for 2009. Another 9 percent of respondents said they will see a 9 percent rise in healthcare costs. You have probably read similar accounts. It's obvious that cost increases can not be sustained over the longer term especially in light of the recent severe economic downturn. Major changes to the US Healthcare system are likely in the shorter term.
